Five factors to assess the quality of a polyester comforter.

Comforters, or duvet inserts, come in various filling materials, such as down, wool, silk, cotton, and synthetic fibers. I’d like to share with you a few factors that impact the quality of a common down alternative comforter – the polyester duvet.

The five factors influencing the quality of a comforter.
  1. The content of different fiber thicknesses.

From an environmental perspective, rPET is a good choice, but due to the wide range of its raw materials, including discarded polyester fabrics, old polyester bottle flakes, discarded textile filaments, bubble material, and pulp chunks, this can result in inconsistencies in the quality of the comforter, issues may include impure coloration and allergic reactions

Pending processing of discarded plastic bottles and other discarded polyester fabrics.

    2. The content of different fiber thicknesses.

Currently, commonly used materials in the market include 3D/7D/15D (where “D” represents denier, a unit indicating the fineness of fibers). The 15D fiber provides excellent fluffiness and resilience but lacks softness, while the 3D fiber is softer but may not exhibit the same level of fluffiness and resilience as 15D. An ideal comforter must strike a perfect balance, being both fluffy and soft for optimal comfort.

      3. With or without sillicon.

“With silicon” indicates fibers that have been treated with silicone oil. Silicon-treated fibers are soft, smooth, and non-tangling, providing excellent fluffiness. Comfoters made from these fibers are elastic, with a smooth, fluffy feel similar to down.

      4. The quality of the shell fabric.

Shells is import for the overall feel and durability of a comforter. High-quality fabric enhances the comfort and durability of the comforter, providing a luxurious feel and ensuring long-lasting performance.

       5. OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It stands for customer confidence and high product safety.

Five Common customer complaints and how to prevent.

  • Fillings come out through the weave of the outer cover after washing.

If the filling or cover is of inferior quality, it may undergo abrasion or damage during washing, causing the filling to escape. If not replacing the filling, increase the shell fabric GSM or thread count is necessary.

  • The thickness of the comforter often differs from customer expectations.

This issue arises because consumers struggle to accurately imagine the thickness based on item weight and dimensions, or due to inaccurate descriptions like ‘All Season.’ Providing customers with a reference value, such as Tog, could effectively address this problem.

  • There is noise when moving.

This is because the filling or outer shell material not being soft enough. Choose soft, noiseless bedding materials.

  • The edging of the comforter is distorted and unsightly.

Binding with starched fabric can effectively prevent this issue.
